Placement Grant

Please review the eligibility criteria outlined below before completing the application form to ensure you meet all requirements.

Purpose

The Placement Grant has been developed to support eligible health discipline students from Charles Sturt University to undertake a clinical placement in the Three Rivers DRH footprint.

Eligible students can apply for $200 per week of placement for the first 5 weeks, then $100 per week up to a maximum of $3,000 to assist with costs associated when attending Workplace Learning placements.

If your application has been successful, payment will be made via bank transfer. Following acceptance and approval of the Placement Grant application, payment will be processed as close as possible to the placement commencement date. Every effort will be made to pay successful grant recipients before attending placement, but this cannot be guaranteed. Students should ensure that their bank details are accurately listed on the Student Administration website so that payments can be processed.

Early applications will be accepted; however, if more than 2 weeks before placement commencement, the payment of the grant may be held over until closer to placement attendance.

Please note: This Grant applies to Charles Sturt University students only. For students from other universities, you should consider your eligibility for the Three Rivers DRH Travel Support Scheme.

Eligibility criteria

Students should meet the below-listed criteria when applying for Three Rivers DRH Placement Grant. The parameters around the eligibility criteria are set by the Australian Government as part of the Three Rivers DRH funding agreement.

  1. Students must be studying as an active student at Charles Sturt University.
  2. Students are to be Australian citizens, New Zealand citizens, or permanent residents of Australia (including the holder of an Australian permanent visa).
  3. Students are to be attending university as a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) student. A Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) is an enrolment subsidised by the Australian Government. Not all enrolments are CSPs. Students not allocated a CSP by Charles Sturt University are not eligible for the Placement Grant.
  4. Eligible students are to be enrolled in one of the Charles Sturt University courses we support.
Eligible disciplines are: Aboriginal health work, dentistry, exercise physiology, medical laboratory science (pathology), midwifery, nursing, occupational therapy, oral health, paramedicine, pharmacy, physiotherapy, podiatry, psychology, medical radiation sciences (including diagnostic radiography, radiation therapy, nuclear medicine and molecular imaging), social work, sonography, speech pathology. Please note that not all courses are included in our funding scope.
  5. The placement being applied for must be organised by Charles Sturt University and listed as ‘Confirmed’ by the Workplace Learning Team via InPlace as part of the supported health course curriculum. Intensive subjects are not classified as placement and, therefore, are not eligible for financial support under the RHMT program.
  6. The placement is to be undertaken within the Three Rivers DRH footprint.
  7. Placements are to be undertaken with external providers only – students undertaking their placement in a facility located on a Charles Sturt University campus are deemed ineligible for Three Rivers DRH subsidised accommodation. University facilities are defined as any facility on Charles Sturt campuses with Charles Sturt University as the placement provider for example but not limited to: Charles Sturt University Dental and Oral Health Clinics (Albury/Orange/Dubbo/Wagga Wagga/Bathurst), Charles Sturt University Community Engagement and Wellness Centre (CEW-Albury/Wodonga), The National Life Science Hub (NaLSH) and Charles Sturt University Student Counselling Service (within the School of Social Work and Arts).
  8. The placement duration must be a minimum of 2 weeks (10 consecutive days at 80% of full-time equivalent placement days) for each placement subject. Only one placement subject per application. Separate placement subjects that run concurrently cannot be merged to meet the 10 day minimum.
  9. Students need to be travelling 80km or more (one way) to their clinical placement from:
    • your home address, and
    • place of residence during university session – where you reside during university sessions.
  10. Applications must be submitted before the completion date of the placement. Applications submitted after the completion date of the placement will not be accepted.
  11. Students who have received Three Rivers DRH Subsidised Accommodation for the placement subject listed in the application will be ineligible for the grant.
  12. Students can apply for the grant for each eligible placement subject as confirmed by Workplace Learning and listed on InPlace. Preference may be given to students who have not received prior funding from this grant.
  13. The grant is payable by Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) to the personal bank account that the student has registered with Charles Sturt University.
    • Students can register bank details with Charles Sturt University on the Student Administration website by going to personal details to enter or change bank details.
  14. The Three Rivers DRH Student Support Team will be responsible for the assessment, approval, and administration of this grant.
  15. Three Rivers DRH reserves the right to recoup grant payments if circumstances change and students no longer meet the eligibility criteria.
    • Once your grant application has been approved, you must advise Three Rivers DRH if any of your placement details change.
    • If you don’t attend the placement or your placement is cancelled, you will no longer meet the eligibility criteria to receive the Placement Grant.
    • The grant proceeds will then need to be repaid.
  16. Three Rivers DRH receives a high volume of applications for grants. Meeting the eligibility criteria may not guarantee access to the Placement Grant.

I undertake that if I am successful in obtaining the Three Rivers DRH Placement Grant, I will meet all administrative commitments as outlined on this web page. I am aware that I will forfeit this Placement Grant if I do not meet these requirements.
