Training for occupational therapists: Environmental Home Modifications – the Basics

Qualified practicing occupational therapists working within our footprint are invited to register an expression of interest to attend a two-day workshop presented by Occupational Therapy Australia: Environmental Home Modifications – the Basics (EHM1366). The workshop will be held in Albury and provide foundation skills in environmental modifications.

Three Rivers Department of Rural Health partially funds this course, which is usually $1,195. However, successful applicants will only need to pay $100.

The course presents the participants with practical tasks for completion and provides them with skills in measurement and design and a client-centred approach to home modifications. It is suited to occupational therapists who are new to the area of environmental modifications or wish to refresh their skills.

Learning objectives

  • Theory to practice
  • Factors affecting design – legislative and person-centred requirements that guide design
  • Clinical reasoning – the basis for prescription and design
  • Drawing to scale – the art of representing the environment
  • Documentation – conveying your design
  • Bathroom design requirements
  • Access design requirements

EOIs close on 1 September 2024 at 5.00pm.
Outcome notices will be issued on 6 September 2024 via email.

Priority allocation will be awarded to clinicians practicing in Deniliquin and its immediate surrounds. Secondary allocation will be to clinicians in other localities within our footprint who currently do not have this competency.

Morning tea and lunch will be provided.

Participants will receive a certificate from Occupational Therapy Australia.
