Presented by highly experienced occupational therapist Sandi Lightfoot-Collins, with more than 40 years of clinical expertise, this workshop blends theory with hands-on, practical learning to support occupational therapists in developing confidence, competence, and professional readiness. Whether you are early in your career or seeking to strengthen your environmental modification capabilities, this workshop provides clear, structured guidance with real-world application and examples.

Across two interactive days, you will work through measurement, design, and clinical reasoning tasks using a client-centred and evidence-informed framework. You will gain essential skills for collaborating with clients, builders, and funders, while learning how to navigate legislative requirements and reduce clinical risk.

You will learn how to:

  • Translate theoretical knowledge into practical environmental modifications.
  • Understand legislative, building code, and client-centred requirements influencing design.
  • Apply structured clinical reasoning to the assessment, planning, and design process.
  • Create accurate scale drawings to represent environmental changes.
  • Develop clear, defensible written and diagrammatic documentation to support recommendations.
  • Identify key design considerations for bathroom and access modifications.
  • Understand anthropometric principles and their impact on design decisions.
  • Articulate the relationship between OT models, theories, and funding scheme expectations.
  • Recognise the role of the environment as a core concept in occupational therapy and its impact on participation.

This two-day workshop provides the essential foundation every occupational therapist needs to conduct safe, client-centred, and effective home modifications, empowering OTs to deliver high-quality services to support client safety, independence, and quality of life.

Total CPD claimable workshop hours: 15.
All participants must bring a scale ruler, pencils, erasers and a retractable tape measure.
