Elsie is an occupational therapist who studied and worked in South Africa. She completed her studies in 2006 and worked in various clinical settings, including mental health, medico-legal, paediatrics and rehabilitation. Elise completed her Master of Gestalt Play Therapy in 2010, exploring how play therapists establish therapeutic relationships with children who have sensory processing disorders.
Elsie and her family migrated to Australia in 2018 and recently relocated to Dubbo. Elsie has a special interest in mental health, clinical placement development and student mentoring.
Elsie previously held a position as a clinical supervisor with the Australian Red Cross in a community-based placement for older adults. She supported the start-up and establishment of the placement that enabled off-shore students to meet their clinical placement requirements despite COVID-19 travel restrictions.
Elsie has previously completed research as part of her Master of Gestalt Play Therapy examining the way play therapists establish therapeutic relationships with children.
She is currently involved in a research project with the Rural Health Education team examining influences on placement quality in rural areas.
Elsie is interested in research focused on promoting occupational therapy in rural areas and supporting the rural occupational therapy workforce. She is also interested in the role of the occupational therapist in aged care.
