Rural Adventure Grant

While on your rural health placement, we want you to explore and experience what the region has to offer.

All grant applications will be subject to the eligibility criteria outlined below.

Purpose

As one of our objectives is to improve the quality of the student rural health placement experience, we have introduced the Three Rivers DRH Rural Adventure Grant (RAG). The grant will support you when you’re on placement in regional and rural areas of the Three Rivers DRH footprint to participate in extracurricular experiences. It can help with the cost of visiting attractions, going on tours and exploring the region.

The RAG is open to students staying in Three Rivers off-campus properties:

  • Cowra
  • Finley
  • Forbes
  • Griffith
  • Lake Cargelligo
  • Temora
  • Tumut

Eligible students can apply for up to $200 to participate in local experiences while on placement. The total value of experiences may exceed $200; however maximum grant awarded will be limited to $200. Applicants can only receive one grant per calendar year. More than one experience can be included in the application for the same region/visit.

Copies of tax invoices and receipts will be required to support the application, along with photographs of the experience and a short written summary of activities undertaken in the region.

Check out the following tourist information websites for some suggestions of things you can do!

Eligibility criteria

Students should meet the below-listed criteria when applying for Three Rivers DRH Rural Adventure Grant (RAG). The Australian Government sets the parameters around the eligibility criteria as part of the Three Rivers DRH funding agreement.

1. The Rural Adventure is to be undertaken while attending placement within the Three Rivers DRH footprint and on a date that falls within the start and finish dates of the placement and the accommodation dates approved by Three Rivers. The Rural Adventure must be located in the region where the placement is being undertaken.

2. Students must be approved and accepted into Three Rivers off-campus accommodation at the below-listed sites.

  • Cowra
  • Finley
  • Forbes
  • Griffith
  • Lake Cargelligo
  • Temora
  • Tumut

3. Students must meet the eligibility criteria for Three Rivers Subsidised Accommodation. Students who have been approved to stay in the Three Rivers off-campus accommodation under market rate terms will be ineligible for the RAG.

4. Placement duration must be a minimum of 2 weeks (10 days consecutive at 80% of full-time equivalent placement days, i.e. minimum of 4 days per week).

5. The Rural Adventure must be considered appropriate for the funding to be provided. Appropriate activities/experiences include visiting local attractions, going on tours and exploring the region (fuel costs for personal vehicles/travel are not covered). This does not extend to attending hotels, nightclubs, meals at restaurants and/or alcohol consumption that are not part of a structured tourism event or activity. Please check with Three Rivers if you are unsure if the proposed experience is suitable. Three Rivers reserve the right to decline an application if the Rural Adventure is considered inappropriate.

6. Purchase of souvenirs, food or other items while attending the Rural Adventure are not included unless they form part of the structured tourism event or activity.

7. The cost of attending the event or activity can only be claimed for the student eligible for and approved for Three Rivers off-campus accommodation. The cost of admission fees or attendance for partners/friends/family members to accompany the student to the Rural Adventure are not included in the Grant.

8. Students can apply for up to $200 to participate in local experiences while on placement. Applicants can only receive one grant per calendar year. More than one experience can be included in the application for the same region/visit. Total value of experiences may exceed $200; however maximum grant awarded will be limited to $200.

9. Applications and evidence of the Rural Adventure must be submitted to Three Rivers no later than 4 weeks following completion of the placement. Evidence is by way of a tax invoice(s) issued by the company providing the activity/experience. The tax invoice must include the name of the company and detail the activity/experience being purchased.

10. Students must upload a photograph representing the Rural Adventure undertaken. It should be an original high-resolution photo file from your camera or phone. The photo(s) should include the image of the student who is applying for the Rural Adventure Grant. By providing photo(s), students warrant that:

  • The photo(s) is the student’s original work. It does not infringe the intellectual property rights or any other rights of third parties.
  • If an image contains an identifiable person (excluding a crowd/group image where many faces can be seen but not specially identified), that person’s consent has been obtained.
  • They agree to the Media Consent and Release terms outlined below.

11. Students are to submit a short, written summary of the Rural Adventure. Include brief details of the experience, how you felt being able to undertake the experience in the local community and any benefits to the overall placement experience. By providing this written summary, students agree to the Media Consent and Release terms outlined below.

12. When an application has been approved, payment will be made via bank transfer. It may take up to 6 weeks to be issued after completion of placement and receipt of all required documentation.

13. Three Rivers DRH receives a high volume of applications for grants. Meeting the eligibility criteria may not guarantee access to the Rural Adventure Grant.
